Since the Firm’s founding, Sellers Dorsey has grown and expanded in ways that help us fulfill our mission to enhance healthcare quality, equity, and access. Most recently, Sellers Dorsey is pleased to welcome four new Directors to our National Consulting Practice as part of the Managed Care team. This includes Maureen Cunningham, Imani Lewis, Maria Resurreccion, and Anne Rote.
Together, these four women bring decades of experience across multiple facets of managed care and will provide clients with additional capabilities to solve their most mission-critical issues including growth and business development, relationship strategy, operational performance, contract compliance, program development, and more.
Many Talents, One Shared Passion
While this new team brings a variety of talents to Sellers Dorsey, all four women share a similar passion that aligns with the Firm’s mission and vision – helping people live their healthiest lives.
Maureen Cunningham, Director
Maureen’s passion for healthcare began with her grandmother, who worked as a nurse in a Philadelphia hospital Emergency Room. “She would share stories of her experience and I knew I wanted to work in healthcare and help people like she did,” says Maureen. Raised in Delaware, a state with a large Medicaid population, Maureen started her career with Coventry Healthcare, which served a significant portion of Medicaid beneficiaries.
This is where her interest in Medicaid first sparked. After becoming the Vice President of Health Services at Coventry where she oversaw end-to-end management of health services, she became the Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations for UnitedHealthcare. Spending more than 15 years with United, Maureen oversaw strategic planning and development, development and implementation of quality and affordability initiatives, and clinical operations with a focus on Medicaid and Medicare.
With her years of experience overseeing operations in Medicaid programs across the country, Maureen brings Sellers Dorsey’s clients in-depth expertise in clinical operations. “I’m extremely excited to be a part of the Sellers Dorsey team. Where else are you going to find an organization whose mission was founded on serving the underserved by improving healthcare?”
Imani Lewis MHA, MHP, Director
For Imani Lewis, her desire to help people also began at an early age. As a young girl, Imani remembers wanting to be an advocate for people after they die, which led her to pursue a career as a forensic pathologist. While earning her undergraduate degree in Biology, Imani obtained an internship conducting autopsies at a local medical examiner’s office. There, she noticed far too many people dying prematurely, which made her question, “What are we doing to help prevent people from dying?” That’s when Imani realized she wanted to advocate for people before they died.
While Imani’s journey in forensic pathology ended, her healthcare career continued. She went on to earn a master’s degree in healthcare administration and a master’s in public health, and began working for a large Illinois hospital system. With a strong desire to help people who lacked access to quality care, Imani decided to shift her focus to community health, specifically serving Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).
She became Chief Strategy Officer at a prominent provider of community-based primary healthcare in Chicago, which operates a network of FQHCs. There, she spearheaded strategic initiatives focused on addressing health disparities, enhancing medical, dental, and social services, improving behavioral health outcomes, and meeting the nutritional needs of underserved populations. Imani also served as Vice President of Quality Improvement for Centene’s Illinois Health Plan, Meridian. In this capacity, she oversaw accreditation and regulatory processes, program management, and quality performance across nine lines of business, including Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Prescription Drug Plans, Foster Care, and Health Insurance Marketplace products.
Imani brings extensive leadership experience in healthcare, spanning both provider and managed care organizations. In this way, Imani is an expert in relationship strategy, especially as it pertains to payer-provider relations. “I know how to get the right people to the table and have both parties move towards a shared vision,” says Imani. Imani is excited to join the Sellers Dorsey team as she will help the Firm expand its impact and build growth strategies for clients.
Maria Resurreccion, RN, PAHM, Director
Maria started her journey in healthcare as a Registered Nurse (RN) and understands first-hand the challenges within managed care, both from the health plan perspective, as well as the provider. After developing a deep understanding of clinical operations and informatics as a nurse while immersed in project management, business, and health systems technology, Maria decided to transition from nursing. “I wanted to leave a legacy utilizing my professional talents to make a difference and make the world a better place,” she says.
Maria became the Director of Implementations and Clinical Services for NTT Data Services where she was the operational lead in creating a Business Process Management (BPM) Center of Excellence (CoE) for an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) that provides care for Medicare beneficiaries in three major markets, which included a Special Needs Plan product. Later, she started her own consulting company where she led cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategic initiatives and drive process improvements to optimize healthcare technology solutions and enhance patient outcomes.
Among her many accomplishments, through her consulting work, Maria helped modernize the health management program for a leading MCO in Pennsylvania to streamline Medicaid and Medicare lines of business and optimize their operational workflow to meet key performance indicators (KPIs). Maria specializes in technology and modernizing healthcare operations with a focus on digital transformation. “There is a great need for bridging the gap between manual processes and the next generation of healthcare operations. I’m skilled in being that liaison who can help organizations grow through digital optimization,” Maria explains.
Maria’s skills will help the Firm’s clients enhance operational performance through tailored solutions in technology and digital optimization while leveraging her expertise in healthcare policy. Maria says that clients can expect a hands-on approach with open communication and collaborative problem-solving to ensure effective strategies that meet their unique needs in managed care.
Anne Rote, Director
Anne first became interested in Medicaid because she wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. She has more than 20 years of executive leadership experience in Medicaid managed care, working across multiple health plans where she had responsibility for more than one million Medicaid beneficiaries.
Through her experience, Anne has gained a special interest in the Aged, Blind, and Disabled populations, particularly those who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. “Dual eligibles have so many hurdles to overcome. As individuals who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid, this population is generally older, low-income, may have multiple chronic conditions and possibly physical or mental disabilities, and may have housing, transportation, language and cognition challenges as well.” Anne also has a passion for those living in senior living facilities. “My mother lived in a nursing facility at the end of her life, and I have a passion for helping that population as well as the owners and operators of the facilities as they navigate participation in government sponsored health plans,” she adds. Anne especially enjoys coordinating business operations between Medicare and Medicaid programs as there are additional challenges and opportunities in aligning the two programs.
Before joining Sellers Dorsey, Anne was President of Medicaid for Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC). There, she oversaw the organization’s Medicaid business, representing over one million Medicaid beneficiaries. Before HCSC, Anne served as the Plan President for Molina Healthcare of Texas where she provided executive leadership and direction, which included Medicaid managed care programs, both Medicare-Medicaid Plans (MMP) and Dual Special Needs Plans (D-SNP), as well as a marketplace product focused on low income individuals and families.
Bringing her talents and expertise to the Firm, Anne is excited to help clients participate in government programs. She looks forward to facilitating growth for health plans through operational improvements and innovation. “My passion is serving the underserved. Working with clients at Sellers Dorsey, I’m excited to help them improve the health and lives of Medicaid beneficiaries, especially dual eligibles.”
Enhancing healthcare quality, equity, and access, together
As part of the managed care team, together with their skills and expertise, Maureen, Imani, Maria, and Anne can help clients harmonize operations and policy in managed care delivery systems, aligning priorities between states, health plans, providers, and solution partners. By leveraging their managed care experience, they can provide clients with strategic advice, technical assistance, relationship management, and more to help them solve for mission-critical issues and enhance healthcare quality, equity, and access for all populations.
